ESTHETIC SUCCESS STORIES
You get out of it what you put in to it! I
started out at State College of Beauty Culture having second
thoughts and doubting myself and what I thought I could do. With
the help of an amazing instructor, Mrs. Kraemer, I began to believe
in myself and put everything I had into my education. Not only did
I gain the knowledge I needed to become successful in the Esthetics
field, I also gained the confidence and self esteem that I needed to
hold my head high and be the professional I was trained to be.
I am now building a nice clientele as the Lead
Esthetician at Zen Garden Spa in Antigo, WI. I can’t thank SCBC and
all the instructors enough for giving me the tools and education I
needed to find the job that I love.

State
College of Beauty Culture prepared me in so many ways to get my
start into a successful career. All of the instructors were very
informative and just as excited about teaching me to succeed as I
was to learn. After completing the Esthetic Skin Care program, I was
at the level of knowledge I needed to be to complete my state board
examination and begin working in the beauty industry.
When the
opportunity came to me to open up my own spa right out of school, I
took the chance and opened up Glow Day Spa in Stanley, WI. While
setting up my business plan, I felt I was well-informed about the
laws and regulations from the state thanks to SCBC, and if I had any
questions all of the instructors were happy to answer them!
Now I am
fully set up and open for business for the past 8 months and loving
every minute of it! I have gained a great clientele base and many of
them are re-bookers! I am very happy with the first year so far and
am gaining new ideas and more clients every day! I couldn’t have
done it without the wonderful instructors at State College of Beauty
Culture!

In 2009 I decided I wasn’t happy at the job I
was currently at, I wanted something more. I have a husband of 12
years and three wonderful girls ages 17, 10 and 8. I had thought
about the cosmetology and Esthetic program. I called up State
College of Beauty Culture to see what they had to offer. Esthetics
appealed to me because there are so many different options with the
field, as well as helping people to look and feel their best along
with flexibility. The possibilities were endless not only for me,
but my family as well.
I started at SCBC in January of 2010 and
graduated with honors in May 2010. I could not have asked for a
better experience. Mrs. Kraemer is awesome at what she does, and
makes sure that everyone understands and prepares you for absolutely
everything! It’s a very intense several months, but SO worth it!
I started my career out at a medical spa
extending my knowledge of medical grade skin care and chemical peels
along with lasers, dermal fillers and botox. What an amazing
adventure. I decided to take a new adventure and open my own
business “In Your Face, LLC” in Spencer, WI. I do facials, spray
tanning, waxing and sugaring. I am absolutely thrilled with where I
am today and cannot thank Mrs. Kraemer enough for saying “Go for it,
you will do great!”

NAIL TECH’S SUCCESS STORIES
I attended an open house at The State College
of Beauty Culture in the spring of 2010. I was so impressed with
the school and the staff, that I decided to sign up to be a Nail
Tech. SCBC has a lot of very knowledgeable staff and instructors,
which made my 15 week course very educational and fun. After all
the hard work I put into my education, and all the help that my
instructors gave me, I now own my own nail salon The Polished Ladies
in Antigo, WI. Thanks to my instructor Mrs. Slack, she is always
there to answer all of my questions and steer me into the right
direction. It’s nice to know that even though you’re done with
school you can still count on them. I love my job and am glad I
chose SCBC.

“Great
expectations…” As of a year ago I didn’t know the true meaning of
this. A year ago, you would have found me standing behind the bar of
a local tavern serving scoops of beer to a bunch of old timers
playing cribbage. Now, one year later, I am a proud owner of a
full-service salon. And it’s all because someone close to me in life
taught me about “great expectations”.
Life has a
way of throwing curve balls that I was unprepared for. When I was
fourteen years old I lost the most important thing in the world to
me, my father. He died from the “c” word that everyone cringes to
hear. He was my life. He was my rock. My world had been turned
upside down over night. Then, the same day I lost my father, I lost
my mother. She started drinking very heavily and has not been the
same person since. She would leave the house for days and go out
partying with her friends. My Grandma would bring me food and sit
with me for company. I felt all alone in the world and it seemed
like I was being punished for things I didn’t know I did.
About 6
months after the passing of my father, my grandparents received
custody of me. Life at that time seemed to be getting better…I had
people around me who loved me. But at the same time, I had gotten in
with a rough crowd from school. I went from being a straight “A”
student to failing every class I was in. I started skipping school
to go hang with friends and party and started to not care about
anything that happened to me. I dropped out of high school when I
was a sophomore.
I started
bartending the day I turned 18 and I thought it was the greatest
thing ever. I was young, got to be in a bar before legal drinking
age, and loved the attention I got from everyone. A few years later,
I met the love of my life (in a bar) and we started to settle down
together. It was then I started to realized that I hungered for
something more, something different, but I wasn’t sure what.
About a
year ago, my future sister-in-law, who does hair, brought to my
attention about going to school to be a nail tech. She said she saw
the creativeness in me and thought I would be good at it. I thought
to myself, ”WOW! Someone actually thinks I might be good at
something!” I hadn’t had that feeling for a long time. I suddenly
felt a burst of energy again. I called State College of Beauty
Culture and talked with a teacher about this career path. She was
very kind hearted and also excited for me. She invited me to the
school for a walk through. And again I thought ,”WOW! Can something
like this really happen to me?”
The
nail program wasn’t starting for a little more than a few months. I
had been talking things over with my fiancé about quitting the bar
and going back to school and making sure he financially could
support the two of us. He told me he could make it work and fully
supports me, so I quit my job with one month to go until the start
date for school. Now mind you I hadn’t even signed up for the class.
There was one small thing holding me back from signing a contract
with the school and that would be something called my high school
diploma. I had dropped out remember? I went and signed up to take
all my GED tests in the same week. NTC told me I would fail because
this has never been done before. Two weeks later I had my diploma
and did it in record time. I then called State College of Beauty
Culture and signed up for the nail tech program. I had never felt so
alive!
I started
school on March 22, 2011. This is a date I will never forget. I was
scared, worried because it had been so long since I had to study or
use my brain. All the teachers were such huge helpers for the
students. They helped build my confidence level about myself. I
really liked that if I was having trouble learning something, the
teachers would take time out of their personal lives to come in
early or stay late to help you understand better. The state of
Wisconsin only requires the minimum amount of time for nail techs
which is 300 hours. I was absorbing knowledge faster than I thought
I would be able to. The nail instructor pushed and thrived for the
class to be the best we could be. I ended up graduating with honors
from the nail program July 16, 2011.
Meanwhile,
the entire time I was in school, my sister-in-law and I had this
crazy idea that we should open our own salon. It started out as just
a dream until one day before school, we went and looked at
professional space for lease that had previously been a salon. We
loved it! It needed a face lift so to speak, but with a little T.L.C.,
could be great. We went to the bank and got approved for a loan.
June 1, 2011 we started leasing our salon. We bought new salon
equipment, painted everything fresh bright colors, and set up shop!
We officially opened Utopia Salon, LLC on August 22, 2011 in
Merrill, WI. We are a full-service salon that offers hair care, nail
care, waxing, and tanning.
I write
this to everyone person who has doubted themselves or has given up
hope in life. If I can do it and achieve what I have, I believe
anyone can do anything no matter what. You just have to have “great
expectations” in yourself.
