Meet The Team

Andi (Andrea) Burns

Andi Burns - School of Beauty Administrator
I entered the beauty industry in the mid-eighties after attending UW-LaCrosse for a year and a half. I realized that the beauty industry was my true passion. After graduation from beauty school, I spent 10 years in the salon, behind the chair. I managed up to 5 salons at one time. I was also a regional educator and human resource director for a chain of 16 salons.

In 1996 I was approached by my employer about the opportunity to manage and operate the beauty school in Wausau. On January 27, 1997 the purchase was official and my position and passion shifted to educating the best entry level stylists and in later years nail technicians and estheticians the beauty industry has to offer.

After realizing that salon business and school business are two completely different animals, my employers gave my husband and I the opportunity of a lifetime. August 1, 1999 marked the most current chapter in my professional career as a school owner.

Since purchasing the school we have expanded three times and now own the building we currently reside in. I love this industry and am so honored to work with all of the wonderful people that join this amazing industry.

Jeanne Dunk

Jeanne Dunk - State College of Beauty Instructor
Hi! I am Jeanne Dunk and am proud to say that I have earned the alumni status here at State College of Beauty Culture as a licensed instructor.

About 30 some years ago I earned my diploma from the IBA School of Cosmetology in Eau Claire WI. From there I returned to my home town Racine WI and started my career. Having worked for several salons while building my clientele allows me to share some wonderful experiences with the students.
While working in the salon I decided I needed a challenge, so I enrolled in the Horticulture Marketing program at the technical institute in Kenosha WI. I earned my associates degree . I have worked in 3 different floral shops and love working with flowers and gardening.
My life took a turn and my husbands job brought us to Wausau WI. It was here I decided to change my course and was hired to work in management with the Aerial Company now know as Cosmaprof. Learning about all kinds of products, hair color, nails was just half the fun. Meeting salon owners, stylists and traveling all over for education was exciting! Our store started out as a B store and after 5 years we earned top sales becoming an A store earning me Manager of the Year!
It was then I met Andi Burns, owner of SCBC. I love change so I accepted her offer. In a short time I earned my Master Educator through constant educational events. Again my husbands job took us in a new direction, to Oshkosh WI. There I worked for a Cosmetology school in Appleton, WI for 6 1/2 years teaching Cosmetology, Aesthetics, the Managers program and Team Leader for their Customer Service program.
Life took a turn and this brought us back to Wausau WI. I am back working for SCBC as a cosmetology instructor. I am teaching Junior classroom and coaching on salon floor. I love teaching! I enjoy watching a student learn, grow and become a confident stylist. Making people feel and look good makes my day. Do your best, keep learning and developing your skills, education is key! Love what you do and it will become your hobby not a job.

Liz Hart

Liz Hart - State College of Beauty Instructor
I am Liz Hart the Lead Instructor here at SCBC!
I graduated from the State College of Beauty Culture in 1988 and worked in the Wausau area for 10 years behind the chair before coming back to the school to teach. I specialized in hair removal, women’s cutting, clipper cuts & color. My passion is making people feel good on the inside and out! If you can make someone look good on the outside, you will make them feel good on the inside too.
I started teaching here on November 1st, 1999. Totally fell in love with teaching, I became the lead instructor in the spring of 2002 and by continuing my education I became a Master Educator in 2004. In 2007 I was able to achieve Advanced Master Educator. Each year I continue my education, to be a best educator I can be. I am so blessed to have such a wonderful career and be employed by such an amazing educational institution. I am very proud of all the accomplishments that SCBC has had over the years.
I am a true optimistic person. I always look for the good in everyone & everything I do. I was able to find my true calling once I became an educator! I have loved every minute of it and continue to find joy every day I am able to bring a new professional into this wonderful industry! This industry is so amazing! I can’t believe what I get to do each and every day… and I get paid for doing something I love! My wish for everyone is that they are able to have such a wonderful career. A career that makes everyone around you happy and everyone envies the path you chose.

Autumn Laabs

Autumn Laabs - State College of Beauty Instructor
Hi my name is Autumn Kolar-Laabs. I am an instructor and administrative assistant at the State college of Beauty Culture. I was raised with a mother who was a cosmetologist. Since I graduated almost 9 years ago, I said I would be back. As of two years ago I obtained my instructor license. I immediately started subbing, then moved to part-time, and then was offered a full-time teaching position. I gladly accepted the position because I love this industry.  I have been very blessed to have a great friend to work for since I came out of beauty school at Looks Unlimited. She was my mentor and helped me grow into what I am today.  Education is the key to success and I there is always something to learn I believe.

I love being an instructor and sharing my knowledge of the industry. This industry has so many paths that can lead anyone to their dreams! It is just wonderful watching every student grow into a spectacular professional. It is important to love what you do and this industry is where it is at! I have worked factory jobs, office jobs but I never loved coming to work as much as I do today and every day. There is always an adventure around every corner.
